Brand Spotlight: Old Growth Vermont

At The Tea House, we choose the cannabis brands we sell with intention. Our goal is to provide you with the best quality offerings from our state.

Old Growth Vermont was an easy choice for us because they also operate with intention. Their meticulous approach to growing cannabis as nature intended—outdoors in living soil—makes them one of Vermont's premier cannabis cultivators.

Who Is Old Growth Vermont?

In short, you could say Old Growth Vermont is an OG. It’s a family business owned and operated by eighth-generation Vermonters. Their master grower’s been studying and cultivating cannabis for over 20 years, and his wife and co-owner is a third-generation cannabis farmer.

Growing clean, effective cannabis for the sake of others is their passion. Getting to do so legally in their home state of Vermont is their literal dream come true.

How Does Old Growth Vermont Cultivate Their Weed?

As you’d expect any OG to operate, Old Growth Vermont uses tried and true practices that focus on the fundamentals of cultivation: clean, living soil; no use of artificial agents; and pure sunshine.

Instead of relying on fertilizers, they focus on maintaining their soil’s healthy microbiome. Using worms, arthropods, and a healthy fungi-to-bacteria ratio, the soil they grow in offers their plants a level of nutrients, oxygen, and stability you can’t artificially recreate.

This approach is inspired by the longevity and interconnectedness of old growth forests, hence the name. In an old growth forest, as well as in Old Growth Vermont’s cultivation, the soil food web is active, natural, and balanced.

How Does Old Growth Vermont Dry and Cure Their Weed?

Like any OG, Old Growth Vermont knows when to stand by tradition and when to embrace innovation. While their cultivation practices are as old as nature, their drying and curing process is future-driven to ensure a perfect end product.

Using the Cannatrol System, their flower is perfectly dried, cured, and held at a stable water activity level that keeps the bud moist and sticky but eliminates the risk of mold growth. The level of retained moisture preserves 16% more terpene content than traditional drying methods. This is obvious when you smoke their flower—its flavor, aroma, and effects are much louder than other outdoor flower you might’ve tried.

Achieving this ideal moisture level also means their flower stays fresh for longer, so even last year’s harvest still hits hard.

Is Old Growth Vermont’s weed strong?

Don’t let anyone tell you outdoor flower can’t be potent. Some of Old Growth Vermont’s flower can reach over 30% THC. But they have strengths for everyone, offering a range from 12.5% to 30.22% THC.

They also prioritize terpenes in a way other cultivators don’t. Terpenes better determine the effects of any given strain than a simple “Indica,” “Sativa,” or “Hybrid” label. By growing in living soil and curing with the Cannatrol System, Old Growth Vermont delivers terpene levels many cultivators cannot achieve. Some of their strains have over 3% terpene content!

For reference, it’s normal to see closer to 1.5% terpene content in flower. Old Growth Vermont’s “normal” is closer to 2.5%.
